Though in the 1960s Matchbox by Lesney were the mainstays of pocket-sized diecast cars, when Hot Wheels appeared in 1967 with their fast wheels fitted to wire axles, kids at the time couldn’t help but to take note. Mattel made many interesting Hot Wheels fantasy models, but the American pocket cars of the time with the greatest mystique were perhaps Johnny Lightning. |
