MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – A collection of vintage Honda motorcycles as well as some hard-to-find bike parts drew enthusiasts to an auction conducted by Sykora Auctions. Owners Dennis and Pattie Thorpe had decided it was time to sell their home and take to the open roads in their motor home. There was no online bidding and Sykora Auctions charges no buyer’s premium. It was an absolute auction with no reserves and buyers came to bid. A rare 1976 Honda Z50 JBM, with title, and fully restored, rang in at a cool $2,000; a 2003 Honda NRS Mini Café Racer, sold for $1,600. Only 200 of these bikes were imported to the United States to dealers only. A 1972 Honda CT70 Model H in very good condition, sold for $1,700; a 1971 Honda Z50 with total upgrades, sold for $1,550; a 1976 Honda Z50 with a 90CC upgrade and four-speed manual transmission, brought $900; a 1973 Honda Trail 90 sold for $950; a 1971 Honda Z50, primarily restored, rang the bell at $750; and a 1981 Honda Passport brought $300. Sykora Auctions is one of the oldest auction companies in Michigan with more than 71 years under its belt. Founded by James J. Sykora, a 2001 inductee into the Michigan Auction Association’s Hall of Fame, in 1948, the company has conducted – at latest count – close to 5,900 auctions.
