By William Flood CHEVY CHASE, Md. — Metro DC-based Sloans & Kenyon Auctioneers and Appraisers held a December catalog auction featuring 274 lots of high-end Asian art and antiques, fine and decorative art, antique furniture, estate jewelry, and assorted fine collectibles. Multiple items achieved five-figure winning bids while dozens more landed four-figure prices. Among the five-figure sales was $31,000 paid for a custom-made platinum and 18K yellow gold and diamond engagement-type ring with an emerald-cut 2.68 ct. diamond centered by two trapezoid-cut diamonds together weighing 0.68 ct. An oil on canvas painting by Pakistani artist Sadequain (1930-1987) of two figures noted as “painted in Paris” sold for $16,000. It was part of a collection that the artist left behind in Paris in 1967 before traveling to Pakistan. A signed 25-inch bronze figure, Girl with Umbrella by Puerto Rican artist Angel Botello (1913-1986) reached $18,000.

It featured elaborately carved shell-and-pendant lambrequin, hooped arm supports with carved bird’s heads, and cabriole legs with paw feet. A George III mahogany dining table with a triple-pedestal base and rectangular top sold for $4,750. A Chinese blue and white porcelain bowl with lotus decoration and Guanxu six-character mark sold for $1,700. Another porcelain piece, a 19th-century Chinese peach bloom glazed porcelain vase, with Kangxi six-character mark snagged $450.
